The Solution

It was 1942, one of the darkest times in the history of humankind, a group of powerful men met at a stately villa on a lake at Wannsee, south-west of Berlin to determine the how, not the what or why of how to dispose of the Jews. 

As I explore the ZHugs theme, I felt that it was necessary to visit about how easy it is to justify literally anything for the good of humanity. Even eradicating 11 million undesirable members of their own population can be justified. As Penelope Debelle in her review of "The Conference" she explains, "The closest we get to a hint of a conscience comes towards the end, when Heydrich says somewhat ruefully that no one wants to kill these people, of course, especially the women and children. We are in a serious battle now. Our society, no the entire world, is becoming increasingly divided. Groups of people are being attacked, not because of anything they have done, but simply because of their race. Politicians who say they want to unite us are doing the opposite. In the Holocaust Encyclopedia, The words are clear. We should never forget.

"The Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish Question" ("Endlösung der Judenfrage") was the deliberate and systematic mass murder of European Jews. It was the last stage of the Holocaust and took place from 1941 to 1945. Though many Jews were killed before the "Final Solution" View This Term in the Glossary began, the vast majority of Jewish victims were murdered during this period. 

It is not known when the leaders of Nazi Germany definitively decided to implement the "Final Solution." What is clear, however, is that the “Final Solution” was the culmination of a decade of increasingly severe discriminatory, anti-Jewish measures implemented by the Nazis. Could it happen again? Yes, it has happened many times during history and is currently happening.
